Many members of the SXS collaboration and the wider NR community met in Providence, RI this August, where the ICERM institute generously hosted our workshop “Simulating Extreme Spacetimes with SpEC and SpECTRE”. (fondly remembered as SXScon 2024).

We combined two activities in a weeklong program: A focused SpEC and SpECTRE code developers meeting and a SpECTRE community workshop. While the developers meeting helped us move forward with many decisions regarding our collaboration codes, the SpECTRE community workshop provided a packed program full of lectures and hands-on tutorials for researchers working with (or interested in working with) our new open-source code SpECTRE. Recorded lectures from the workshop are available at the ICERM workshop website and tutorial materials are available on GitHub.

Participants had the chance to present lightning talks about their research at evening sessions with pizza, and panel discussions with SXS alumni as well as discussion sessions about our publication policies and the future of our codes rounded out the program. With over 70 in-person participants from the US, India, and Europe we had an incredibly productive, diverse, and collaborative week, and we thank ICERM wholeheartedly for their generous support.
